09 Apr Washington DC Trip. Capoeira and Everything that comes with it!
Our journey to DC was more than training — it was culture, connection, and knowledge.
We had the opportunity to visit the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC), part of the Smithsonian — the leading museum in Washington, D.C. dedicated to the history of slavery and African American culture.
Through powerful exhibitions, we deepened our understanding of the African diaspora, segregation, and the immense contributions of Black communities in the United States.
We also strengthened bonds with ABADÁ schools from Queens, Brooklyn, New York, DC, and San Francisco — building one strong Capoeira family across cities.
🔥 Workshops with Mestrando Coala elevated our game through Capoeira, Samba de Roda, Jongo, and Maculelê.
🎶 With Mestranda Gigi’s powerful voice, the roda came alive — arrepiou!
✨ Mestra Edna, maintaining the cadence of the batizado and competitions, alongside Mestrando Côco, brought the bateria to life — making the gunga call, the médio respond, and the viola sing, filling the roda with pure dendê, rhythm, and tradition.
✨ Mestranda Yara, once again, hosted a spectacular event, reminding us of the true meaning of the Jogos da Capital. It’s not about competing against each other — it’s about playing, learning, and growing together.
She reminded us that our differences are what make us stronger, and that Capoeira is, above all, a space for connection, respect, and collective evolution.
