Who we are

ABADÁ-Capoeira Marin was founded by Helisângela “Lisa” Silva Willoughby, also known as Instrutora Ciranda in the capoeira world, a longtime student of one of the top-ranked female capoeiristas in the world, Mestra Márcia “Cigarra” Triedler, at ABADÁ-San Francisco. ABADÁ-Marin was founded to extend the award-winning youth and adult programs of ABADÁ-San Francisco to the Marin County community. The principal teacher of ABADÁ-Capoeira Marin is Instrutora Ciranda.

The Mission: Our mission is to provide the very best capoeira program in Marin County and enrich our students’ lives through culture and diversity. By incorporating these values, we hope to help our students become good citizens in our local and global community. Our program is based on encouragement, truth, trust, active listening, personal effort.

  • Eu queria falar sobre nossa aula de português. Nós temos uma programa incrível e não sei se as pessoas souberem ele. Nossa professora Manoela, tem uma aula que combina história de capoeira e portugês. Com ajuda dela, eu aprendo tanto sobre este Arte Marcial maravilhoso. Capoeira é diferente das outras Artes Marciais por causa de sua cultura. A música, os instrumentos, a comunidade, e a língua. A Língua de capoeira, o um nós ouvimos na aula, o um nós ouvimos na canções é português. Capoeira e português não são separados. Então, se você quer se tornar um capoeirista completo, o português é essencial. Venha para a aula de português e veja como a nossa história é fantástico.

  • I want to say again thank you so much for the opportunity to train and rejoice in all of your accomplishments, I feel so privileged to have been able to witness the lectures, songs, and competitions.   • Capoeira is so unique and fun to learn because it is composed by all these many factors: includes mastering it's music (which has a correlation with the different ways we play Capoeira), the language (classes are thought in Portuguese and English) and it's history, which is so, SO rich. Practicing Capoeira it's a hell of a workout, while adding balance, speed and control in every possible muscle of your body. But even better than all of that: Capoeira is for me my family. Come to learn how to fight with style -that's what families are for!

  • ABADÁ-Capoeira Marin is a fantastic capoeira studio catering to all levels and backgrounds! If you are interested in athletics, music, dance, Brazil, any of the above, this is for you! The instructors are fantastic and especially good with children - our kids both started training at age 3 and they (now nearly 5 and 9) both love it. Treat yourself to something new - you will not be disappointed!

  • Capoeira a Brazilian martial art is inspiring to me because I am getting to learn the culture of Brazil. Capoeira influenced my life by teaching me how to build an experience with people not known to you. I believe the point in capoeira is to learn about life and have fun doing it.
