🖤 Black History Month:
Malcolm X & Martin Luther King Jr.
Two Voices, One Movement
As we continue celebrating Black History Month, we recognize the lasting impact of Malcolm X and his leadership in the fight for racial justice. While Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. preached nonviolent resistance, Malcolm X advocated for self-defense, empowerment, and pride in Black identity.
Like Capoeira, which blends strategy, movement, and adaptability, these two leaders approached the struggle in different ways but worked toward the same goal: freedom and equality. Capoeira teaches us that sometimes we must be patient like Dr. King, and other times, we must act with precision and strength like Malcolm X.
🔹 Malcolm X: Encouraged self-determination, strength, and knowledge as a means of liberation.
🔹 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.: Advocated for nonviolent resistance and unity in the face of oppression.
Both leaders challenged the status quo and inspired movements around the world. Their legacy reminds us that change requires action, awareness, and community. This week in class, let’s reflect on their impact and think about how we, too, can create positive change.
