Opening the 2018 Batizado

Opening the 2018 Batizado: Puxada de Rede com Festa do Peixe

This year's Batizado will open with a short performance by our students. The performance is known as the Puxada de Rede com Festa do Peixe.

This is a traditional dance that refers to the return of fishermen from their days at sea as well as the celebration of their catch. Rehearsal days for ABADÁ-Marin Students will be announced several weeks before the Batizado.

Batizado and Graduation Ceremony 2016

ABADÁ Capoeira Marin's first batizado will include both the youth and adult students of Graduada Ciranda.

The batizado (Portuguese for baptism) is a traditional capoeira ceremony in which new students are initiated into the world of capoeira. New students receive a capoeira nickname and play with a senior and high-ranking capoeiristas, symbolically welcoming them into the ABADÁ capoeira community. New and continuing students receive a cord that represents their level.
